Adam Valcourt, in his first varsity tournament of the year, nabbed 5th place, after pinning the #1 seed from Hampton in the quarterfinals. Valcourt, who had just cracked the Hornet lineup in the days leading up to the tournament, looked competitive in his first varsity outing.
Nick Ziegler earned a third place finish at 130 pounds, the best finish of his young career. Ziegler, although a junior, is only in his second year of wrestling.
“Nick is probably one of the hardest working guys in the wrestling room. He has improved so much from last year, it’s unbelievable” Coach Gonzales said. “He competes hard, and with a lot of energy. He isn’t satisfied unless he is winning.”
Herndon will compete in the Prince William County Invitational over the holiday break at Gar-Field High School in Woodbridge. The two day tournament kicks off on Thursday, Dec 27, with finals beginning on Friday, Dec 28 at 5pm. This invitational marks the final competition for the Hornets before they embark on their dual meet regular season.
